Arson at the business premises in Derry city center is under investigation

Police are asking for information following a report of arson at a business premises on Ferryquay Street in Derry on Saturday 29 April.

Inspector Craig said: “Shortly before 6.55pm it was reported that a fire had broken out in a shop nearby.
“There was fire damage to the toiletries department, with staff and customers evacuated from the store while the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service battled the blaze. There were no reports of injuries, and there was also smoke damage after the incident in the shop.

“At the time of the incident, two young men were seen nearby. The first man is described as wearing a dark colored tracksuit and pants, with short dark hair. The second man is described as wearing dark clothing, having short dark hair, and wearing a camouflage-style green coat with an orange inner lining.

“The investigation continues and police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1573 04/29/23.
