Belfast property consultancy, McConnell Chartered Surveyors, has successfully acquired office space for the US firm, one of the latest entrants to the Belfast international law firm.

Located in the cylinder building at the Gasworks, Belfast, the 10,329m² office will be Ogletree Deakins’ first permanent property in the city, following its arrival in Northern Ireland in 2021.

Originally opened with 25 paralegals, it has since grown to a team of more than 75 business professionals working in a variety of roles. Members of the Global Solutions Center in Belfast are a highly skilled group of paralegals who work with Ogletree Deakins’ US-based Immigration Practice Group to handle H-1B visas and PERM employment certifications, along with a host of time-sensitive activities. for the company’s sizable corporate immigration clients.

“When we launched Global Solutions Belfast from Ogletree Deakins in mid-2021, we started in a service space to better understand the market landscape and maintain a level of agility and flexibility,” said Ivan Sim, director of infrastructure and real estate for Ogletree Deakins.

“With the success of our Belfast facility, it was time to ‘hang up a clapboard’ and provide a productive space that represents the professionalism of our business and the talent we employ in Belfast, while supporting our anticipated growth in the support in the coming years. I think our teams will find that we hit the mark.”

The acquisition also signifies a renewed interest in the booming office sector, which has seen a real change of pace since the start of the year, with some high-profile moves from professional services firms across the city in recent months alone.

Caroline McKillen, Director of McConnell Chartered Surveyors, said: “We are delighted to have supported Ogletree Deakins in the acquisition of their new offices in Belfast. The investment in new premises sends a strong message to both the business community and existing and future employees that Ogletree Deakins is here to stay.

“It is another vote of confidence in the office sector here in the city, which has seen a number of large transactions in recent months. Deals are there to be made and the city’s supply for office space has never been stronger as workers return to the office, with collaboration and networking firmly back on the agenda.”

One of the world’s largest labor and employment law firms, Ogletree Deakins associates will move from the Cylinder Building to first-floor accommodation later this week, with a push for open, collaborative workspace and growth in mind of the Belfast workforce in the coming months.
