Mr. – Shana Cohen, CEO of TASC, broadly supports President Michael D Higgins’ recent speech seeking to broaden the debate on progress (“Economists didn’t like it, but we can’t afford not to listen to what Michael D Higgins had to say,” Opinion & Analysis, May 9). However, most of the argument for rethinking progress is framed in the context of climate change. Looking beyond Ireland, most of the damage we are doing globally is related to rising inequality. Until we analyze and address our facilitation of global greed with the same force we apply to climate change, we are doing the world, and ourselves, a huge disservice. – Yours, etc.
